A former national legal adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mark Jacob, has called for the resignation of FCT minister Nyesom Wike from the party due to allegations that he worked against the party’s interest in the 2023 presidential election. Jacob claimed that Wike and his group supported Bola Ahmed Tinubu over Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 presidential election due to selfish interests, as he allegedly wanted to become president of Nigeria.

According to Jacob, Wike’s actions in the 2023 election were driven by his own selfish interests. Wike, alongside his G5 faction, which included then-Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu state), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia state), called for the removal of the suspended national chairman of the PDP, Iyorchia Ayu. These actions were seen as working against the interest of the PDP and in favor of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Jacob also alleged that Wike’s campaign for power to shift to the southern part of Nigeria was motivated by his own desire to become president. He suggested that Wike and his followers should voluntarily resign from the party, and if they fail to do so, they should be sanctioned.

Additionally, a former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, claimed that Peter Obi won the 2023 presidential election, not President Tinubu as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Lawal, a close ally of Tinubu, asserted that available factual data from several independent sources indicated that Obi got the majority votes while Atiku came second in the election, with Tinubu coming a distant third.

These allegations and claims have raised significant concerns within the PDP, with members calling for accountability and appropriate action to be taken against those working against the party’s interests. It is essential for political parties to maintain unity and solidarity within their ranks, and any actions contrary to this must be addressed and resolved accordingly.

It is evident that there is a need for transparency and accountability within political parties to ensure that the interests of the party and its members are protected. Any allegations of individuals working against the party’s interests must be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate measures must be taken to address such actions. The unity and strength of political parties are crucial for the success and stability of the democratic process.
