The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, is committing to the construction of the Gwagwa, Karimo to Dei-Dei road in order to alleviate traffic congestion in the area. This announcement was made during the inauguration of the construction of the access road to Saburi 1 and 2 in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, Abuja.

The road will start from the Outer Northern Expressway (Murtala Mohammed Expressway, also known as Zuba Kubwa Expressway) and extend to Old Keffi Road, near Dei-Dei International Market. This decision was made following a request by the AMAC Chairman, Christopher Maikalangu, to the minister to expand the road in order to reduce traffic congestion.

Mr. Maikalangu emphasized that the road is an essential commercial route in the whole of FCT but is currently in a bad state and narrow, requiring expansion for the benefit of road users. He also highlighted the importance of the road during the rainy season and how it will bring relief to the people in the area.

The minister, Mr. Wike, acknowledged the significance of the road project and received the overwhelming support of the residents present at the event. The residents unanimously expressed their approval for the construction of the Gwagwa-Karimo-Dei-Dei road during the inauguration. Mr. Wike stated that “consider it to be done,” highlighting the importance of responding to the needs of the people as a crucial aspect of governing.

He also emphasized the importance of prioritizing the needs of rural communities, as they constitute a significant portion of the population. Mr. Wike called on the residents to pray for President Bola Tinubu’s good health and guidance to fulfill his campaign promises of providing dividends of democracy to the people. He also announced the upcoming inauguration of additional roads across the six area councils of the FCT in the next three months.

In addition, Mr. Wike appealed to the Senate and House Committees on FCT to support the passing of the FCT statutory budget, which would enable the Administration to deliver more roads and other projects in rural communities. The commitment to road construction and development aligns with the renewed hope agenda of President Tinubu, aiming to keep people’s hope alive and improve socio-economic activities in the area.

During the event, the Chief of Jiwa, Idris Musa, expressed gratitude to Mr. Wike for the construction of rural roads across the six area councils and conferment of the traditional title of Jagaban (Chief Warrior) Kudu of Jiwa Chiefdom on the FCT Minister. So far, the FCT Minister has inaugurated the construction of six rural roads totaling 42.2 kilometers across six Area Councils, indicating a strong commitment to infrastructure development and progress in the region.

In closing, the announcement of the construction of the Gwagwa-Karimo-Dei-Dei road and the commitment to additional road projects in the FCT demonstrate a dedication to addressing the infrastructure needs of rural communities and fostering socio-economic development. As a result, these efforts will contribute to reducing traffic congestion, improving road infrastructure, and supporting the overall well-being of residents in the FCT.
