Parents in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, are feeling the pinch of rising prices as they shared their experiences of cutting noodles from their household menu in response to the continuous increase in the price of this popular fast food commodity. In separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja, these parents expressed their concerns over the affordability of noodles and the need to explore alternative food options for their children.

Hauwa Bakari, a mother and teacher, recounted how she used to prepare noodles for her children to take to school every Friday and to Islamic school on Sundays. However, she had to make a change due to the recent surge in the price of noodles. The cost of a carton of indomie noodles had skyrocketed from N6,000 to N8,400 within a two-week period and further escalated to N18,000 and above for the medium size of indomie noodles, with minimie noodles priced at N16,000. Mrs. Bakari lamented that while noodles were a favorite food for her children, the current economic situation compelled her to prioritize more affordable options available at home.

Another mother, Kemi Samuel, stated that she had decided to eliminate noodles from her grocery list as it seemed like an extravagant and unnecessary expense. Instead, she opted to cook more spaghetti with ample vegetables for her family, considering noodles as a quick-to-digest indulgence that did not justify the high cost. This sentiment was echoed by many parents who found noodles to be a luxury that they could no longer afford.

Despite the financial strain, some individuals like Rose Yakubu, a student, remained unwavering in their love for noodles. Miss Yakubu emphasized that noodles provided a convenient solution by saving her from the hassle of buying additional ingredients for a proper meal like rice. While some continued to enjoy noodles despite the price hike, shop owner Shefiyu Abubakar highlighted the challenges faced by consumers in affording this once-popular food item. The soaring prices, with hungry man indomie packs priced between N18,000 to N19,000 per carton, had forced many customers to explore other more budget-friendly food options.

As prices continue to rise due to inflation, there is growing concern about the accessibility of essential food items for average Nigerians. Mr. Abubakar articulated the hope that food prices would stabilize in the near future to ensure that everyone can afford a decent meal daily. In the face of economic uncertainties, families are increasingly making conscious decisions to manage their expenses and prioritize cost-effective food choices for their households.

In conclusion, the escalating prices of noodles have compelled many parents in the FCT to reconsider their food preferences and opt for more affordable meal options. The economic strain caused by the rising cost of essential food items underscores the need for sustainable solutions to ensure that every family can access nutritious meals without breaking the bank.
