The Commissioner of Police overseeing the Federal Capital Territory, Benneth Igweh, has given his word to the residents of Bwari Area Council, especially the students and staff of Veritas University, Bwari-Abuja, assuring them of adequate security in the region. He mentioned that the command has deployed a substantial number of personnel and resources in the area, ensuring that no criminal elements can pose a threat to the residents again.

The guarantee was made during a courtesy visit by the Vice Chancellor of Veritas University, Hyacinth Ichoku, to Mr. Igweh at his office in Abuja. Bwari Area Council has been in the spotlight in recent times due to the activities of kidnappers, including an incident last December where five daughters from a single family were kidnapped, with one victim losing her life due to ransom delays.

Mr. Igweh, in his discussions with the Vice Chancellor, expressed his commitment to preventing such incidents from recurring under his watch, emphasizing the security measures taken in Bwari. He assured that the area, being unique and hosting several education institutions and a federal government secondary school, is a priority for security reinforcement.

To reinforce the security presence in the Bwari region, the Commissioner mentioned the establishment of a base in Ushafa to support operations in Bwari. He highlighted the return of residents who had fled the area due to security concerns, attributing it to the effective policing strategies implemented.

In response, the Vice Chancellor commended Mr. Igweh for the robust security arrangements around Veritas University and urged him to extend the police presence to neighboring communities lacking adequate security coverage. He pledged the university’s continued support to law enforcement agencies, emphasizing the importance of backing the police in safeguarding the community rather than resorting to ransom payments.

The dialogue between the university and the police authority reflects a collaborative effort to enhance security in the Bwari Area Council. The commitment of both parties to work together to maintain a safe environment for students, staff, and residents demonstrates a shared commitment to promoting safety and peace in the region.

In conclusion, the assurance of enhanced security measures in Bwari signifies a step towards restoring confidence and peace in the community. Through collaborative efforts between institutions like Veritas University and law enforcement agencies, a safer environment can be created, fostering a sense of security and wellbeing among residents and stakeholders.
