Bashir Ahmad, a former aide to immediate past President Muhammadu Buhari, criticized President Bola Tinubu for constantly blaming his predecessor. Ahmad’s remarks came in response to a critique of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government by Abdul-Aziz Na’ibi Abubakar, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He expressed the view that the PDP displayed more political savvy in handling criticism compared to the APC.

Abubakar had accused the APC of playing the blame game, highlighting how the Buhari administration and Tinubu’s government were quick to shift responsibility to the previous administration. This criticism stemmed from a recent statement by Wale Edun, Tinubu’s finance minister, attributing Nigeria’s current inflation to the excessive printing of naira notes during Buhari’s eight-year tenure.

Ahmad admonished Tinubu to focus on building upon the successes of his predecessor rather than engaging in blame games. He urged Tinubu’s administration to address the challenges left by Buhari in a strategic manner to consolidate the ruling party’s position and prevent the PDP from having a strong defense.

Ahmad’s Twitter post lamented the government’s fixation on highlighting the faults of the previous administration instead of acknowledging its achievements. He praised the PDP for its adeptness in politics, citing how past PDP governments rarely criticized their predecessors, unlike the current APC administration.

In a departure from his initial promise to follow in Buhari’s footsteps and not on his toes, Tinubu’s government has faced setbacks in court cases initiated by the Buhari administration. The federal government lost two key cases, with one being dismissed by the Supreme Court and the other being withdrawn by the Tinubu-led government.

Overall, Ahmad’s criticism of Tinubu reflects a growing dissatisfaction with the blame game prevalent in Nigerian politics. He advocates for a more constructive approach to governance, emphasizing the need to focus on achievements rather than engaging in constant finger-pointing. By highlighting the differences between the APC and PDP’s political strategies, Ahmad calls for a more nuanced and effective approach to governance in Nigeria.
