The Ekiti State Government recently made a significant decision to halt the monthly salary of a traditional chief, Sunday Faluyi, in Iworo Quarters, Omuo-Ekiti, Ekiti East Local Government Area. The Deputy Governor, Monisade Afuye, issued this directive during a meeting with a delegation from the community in her office in Ado-Ekiti. The decision was a result of a protest letter received from Abel Olorunsogo of Ayauna family, accusing Olumuo of Omuo-Ekiti, Oba Noah Omonigbehin, of preventing their family from assuming a rightful position in the royal dynasties.

The petition detailed a court judgment from 1999, which stated that only three families were entitled to the royal seat in succession order. However, the Olomuo-in-Council was parading four families, leading to the dispute. Deputy Governor Afuye mediated the conflict and directed Oba Omonigbehin to commence the installation process of a new Aro from the Ayaro dynasty of Iworo Quarters. She emphasized the importance of maintaining the rotation system that had been in place to ensure peace and harmony.

Chief Faluyi faced consequences for defying the order by the Olomuo and obstructing the installation process of a new Aro. Afuye expressed disappointment in the chief’s behavior, stating that a peace-maker should not sow discord within the community. As a result, his salary was suspended until he reached an agreement with Olomuo for resolving the case.

The rotational system for the Aro chieftaincy seat was reiterated, with records showing that the position should return to the Ayaro family. Oba Omonigbehin clarified that he was following the succession plan established by the families in 1999 and was not biased towards any particular dynasty. He welcomed the government’s intervention in upholding the truth and ensuring justice in the community.

The government’s stance on the issue was commended by Oba Omonigbehin, affirming their commitment to transparency and fairness. The resolution of the conflict highlighted the importance of adherence to established traditions and the role of the government in promoting peace and unity within communities.

In conclusion, the decision to suspend Chief Faluyi’s salary serves as a reminder to all chiefs to uphold peace and unity within their communities. By respecting and following established traditions, conflicts can be resolved, and harmony can be restored, ensuring the well-being of the community as a whole.
