The Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently made a significant arrest of 21 trucks loaded with both food and non-food items. These trucks were intercepted in a sting operation at major exit routes along Kalabiri/Gamboru Ngala and Bama roads in Borno, as they were heading towards N’djamena, Chad Republic, Central African Republic, and Cameroon. This operation was a result of the eagle-eyed vigilance of EFCC operatives.
Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson for the EFCC, shared this information in a statement released on Tuesday in Abuja. He mentioned that the food items were cleverly concealed in the trucks and would have gone undetected if not for the diligent work of the EFCC operatives. The investigation revealed that the Waybills covering the goods carried by the trucks indicated their destinations as N’djamena, Chad Republic, Central African Republic, and Cameroon.
The arrest of these trucks is expected to have a positive impact in curbing food insecurity that is often exacerbated by the activities of smugglers in the country. The suspects who were apprehended along with the trucks are currently being profiled, and once investigations are concluded, they will be charged to court.
This operation highlights the commitment of the EFCC in addressing issues related to economic crimes and ensuring the security of the country’s borders. By intercepting these trucks, the EFCC has prevented the illegal movement of goods that could potentially have a negative impact on the economy and contribute to food insecurity in the region.
The EFCC is continuously working to combat various forms of economic crimes, including smuggling and illicit financial activities. Through strategic operations like this, the EFCC aims to safeguard the economic well-being of the country and protect its citizens from the harmful effects of illegal activities.
It is crucial for law enforcement agencies like the EFCC to remain vigilant and proactive in addressing economic crimes to maintain the integrity of the country’s economy and ensure the safety and well-being of its people. By conducting operations like the interception of these trucks, the EFCC is sending a clear message that illegal activities will not be tolerated, and those involved will be held accountable for their actions.
As the investigation progresses and the suspects are brought to justice, the EFCC will continue to work towards creating a safer and more secure environment for all Nigerians. Operations like this serve as a reminder that the EFCC is dedicated to upholding the rule of law and protecting the country from economic crimes that threaten its stability and prosperity.
