The Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has started probing 16 suspected oil thieves and a vessel transferred to it by the Nigerian Navy, NNS Beecroft, Apapa, Lagos. The vessel, MT. Vinnalaris 1, was seized along with its crew members on December 6, 2023, around Ebesun Oil Field, with approximately 515,870 liters of crude oil.
According to L.M. Osuman, the vessel was caught loading crude oil without the necessary permit. The Nigerian Navy took action against the vessel and its crew members for their involvement in illegal activities.
Commodore Mr. Usman, representing the Nigerian Navy, affirmed their commitment to combating oil theft in the country. The collaboration between the Nigerian Navy and EFCC highlights the joint efforts to tackle economic crimes jeopardizing the nation’s resources.
