The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration for its failure to ensure the security and welfare of Nigerians, following the abduction of the party’s Edo State chairman, Dr. Tony Aziegbemi. In a statement released by Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary, the PDP called for the immediate and unconditional release of Dr. Aziegbemi, who was reportedly kidnapped in Benin City, the capital of Edo State.
The PDP expressed deep concerns over the abduction of Dr. Aziegbemi, emphasizing that it highlights the overall failure of the APC-controlled Federal Government to fulfill its primary duty of ensuring the safety and well-being of Nigerians, as stipulated in the Constitution. The party denounced the alarming increase in abductions across the country, citing recent incidents such as the kidnapping of school children in Kaduna and Sokoto States, who are still being held captive in distressing conditions.
The statement criticized the APC administration for offering false assurances while failing to take decisive actions to address the security challenges faced by Nigerians. The PDP urged the government to overhaul the national security architecture, particularly in the areas of intelligence gathering and security coordination, to enhance the safety of citizens and facilitate swift rescue operations.
Commending the efforts of security personnel in safeguarding the nation, the PDP encouraged them to persevere in the face of daunting challenges. The party also praised the initiatives of Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, in implementing effective security measures and urged security agencies to leverage these frameworks to enhance citizen safety not only in Edo State but across the country.
Furthermore, the PDP called on Nigerians to remain vigilant, supportive of security agencies, and prayerful during these trying times. The party urged the security high command to take immediate action to secure the release of Dr. Aziegbemi and all other individuals held captive by kidnappers in different parts of the country.
In conclusion, the PDP’s statement highlighted the urgent need for the government to prioritize the security of all Nigerians and to implement concrete measures to combat the rising threat posed by kidnappings, banditry, terrorism, and other criminal activities. The party underscored the importance of collective efforts in ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens, emphasizing the need for a proactive and coordinated approach to address the security challenges facing the country.
