Vice President Kashim Shettima spoke at the public presentation of Sam Omatseye’s new book, “Beating All Odds: Diaries and Essays on How Bola Tinubu Became President”, where he praised President Bola Tinubu for his decision to remove fuel subsidy on his first day in office. Shettima emphasized that this decision was made in the best interest of Nigerians and the nation’s economy, and history will remember Tinubu kindly for it.

Shettima acknowledged that President Tinubu is aware of the current economic crisis and challenges facing Nigerians, and he has taken responsibility for resolving them without blaming others. The Vice President reassured Nigerians that Tinubu has the nation’s best interests in mind and that the policies implemented so far are for the benefit of the country.

The book, “Beating All Odds,” chronicles Sam Omatseye’s interventions in the 2023 presidential race, showcasing the struggles and successes of Bola Tinubu’s journey to the presidency. Shettima described the 2023 general elections, which led to Tinubu’s presidency, as the most divisive in Nigerian history, especially due to the Muslim-Muslim ticket and the deliberate manipulation of ethno-religious fault-lines for political gains.

Despite the divisive nature of the elections, Shettima highlighted that Nigerians, from both the northern and southern parts of the country, united behind the right candidate, demonstrating their commitment to national unity. He criticized the political narratives and fabrications that attempted to sow chaos during the election period and commended those who stood up for objective journalism.

Shettima praised Tinubu as a political phenomenon and a man of courage and conviction, noting his swift actions in making tough decisions, such as removing fuel subsidy and collapsing the multiple exchange rate regime. He expressed confidence that history will judge Tinubu favorably for his bold moves in addressing the country’s economic challenges.

Chief Olusegun Osoba, former Governor of Ogun State, also lauded Tinubu’s resilience and determination to overcome obstacles on his path to the presidency, describing him as an extraordinary politician with a strategic vision. The book provides valuable insights into Tinubu’s character, methods, and strategies, showcasing his journey to the presidency.

The event saw the attendance of dignitaries such as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori, former National Chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, and other notable figures. The unveiling of the book shed light on Tinubu’s remarkable political journey and the challenges he faced on his way to becoming the President of Nigeria.
