The wife of the Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief Mary-Maudaline Nwifuru, expressed her appreciation for the efforts of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN) and its partners in the state for their work to eradicate cervical cancer and prevent untimely deaths. She praised the organization’s dedication to improving health outcomes and reducing the impact of cervical cancer on the population.
Speaking on behalf of Mrs. Nwifuru, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekuma Moses, commended MWAN for their commitment to supporting health initiatives in the state. He acknowledged the importance of their programs and goals in advancing healthcare and addressing the challenges posed by cervical cancer.
Mrs. Nwifuru also recognized the Chief Medical Director of DUFUTH, Professor MaryRose Uzoma, and the National President of MWAN for their efforts to bring the program to Ebonyi State. She promised to support women-related medical programs and initiatives to improve the lives of people in Ebonyi State.
The CMD of DUFUTH, Mrs. Rosemary Agwu, emphasized the need for collaborative efforts to achieve excellence in healthcare. She highlighted the importance of establishing Well Woman Centers in general hospitals to expand screening and vaccination services for cervical cancer. Dr. Agwu also sought support for social welfare programs to assist pregnant women and patients in need.
In her remarks, the National President of MWAN, Prof. Rosemary Ogu, emphasized the organization’s focus on promoting good health for women, children, and families. She highlighted the importance of sensitization, capacity building, and service delivery in addressing health challenges, including cervical cancer.
The MWAN’s capacity building program aims to extend its reach to all general hospitals in Ebonyi state and collaborate with partners to combat cervical cancer. The organization urged support for efforts to eliminate cervical cancer and prevent unnecessary deaths from the disease.
During a 17-day corporate health activity, MWAN partnered with DUFUTH, AE-FUTHA, NOFIC, and the Ministry of Health to conduct cancer screenings and training programs for healthcare professionals. The collaborative efforts of these organizations are crucial in the fight against cervical cancer and improving health outcomes in Ebonyi State.
