The Association of Ebonyi Indigenes Socio-Cultural In the Diaspora (AEISCID) has condemned Governor Francis Nwifuru’s refusal to acknowledge congratulatory messages from the opposition following the Supreme Court’s affirmation of his status.
The Supreme Court dismissed the petitions filed by opposition candidates Ifeanyi Odii of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Professor Bernard Odoh of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) challenging Nwifuru’s electoral victory. Despite this victory, Nwifuru has faced criticism for rebuffing well-wishes from his rivals.
Paschal Omaka, the President of AEISCID, expressed apprehension about the governor’s response to congratulatory messages, calling it alarming. Nwifuru’s refusal to acknowledge the well-wishes has sparked controversy, with Omaka criticizing the governor for his lack of wisdom, tact, and diplomacy. The group fears that this behavior may not be suitable for the highest office in Ebonyi.
The group has demanded that Governor Nwifuru and the Ebonyi State Government retract the statement attributed to him, and offer an unconditional apology to the opposition candidates. They have set a 48-hour deadline for the governor to take prompt action.
In another report, the governorship candidate of PDP in Nasarawa state, David Ombugadu, has called for calm from his supporters amid unrest in the state following the announcement of the Supreme Court verdict. Ombugadu thanked his supporters for their commitment and resilience towards his journey of taking over the helm of affairs in the state.
The refusal to acknowledge congratulatory messages and the subsequent backlash indicate a lack of diplomatic traits on the part of Governor Nwifuru. This situation has raised concerns and drawn criticism from various quarters, prompting demands for an apology and retraction of the governor’s statements.
