President Bola Tinubu delivered a powerful message at an Iftar event in Abuja, urging religious leaders to play a constructive role in shaping public opinion and promoting unity in Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of avoiding vilification of the nation in sermons and criticized those who denigrate elected officials without offering constructive criticism. Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling Nigeria’s challenges, particularly against terrorism.

During his speech, President Tinubu highlighted the resilience of the nation against terrorism, stating that no terrorist can defeat the collective will of Nigerians. He called on traditional and religious leaders to forge a strong bond with the government to combat terrorism, banditry, kidnapping, and other forms of criminality in the country.

Tinubu shared a poignant moment from attending the burial of 17 soldiers killed in action in Delta State, emphasizing the importance of praying for the country and educating children. He urged religious leaders not to condemn Nigeria in sermons but rather to focus on constructive change and leadership for the betterment of the nation.

Addressing the audience on his upcoming birthday coinciding with Good Friday, President Tinubu extended his wishes for a safe return home for all attendees and their families. He emphasized the significance of unity and the diversity that unites the nation during Ramadan.

Vice-President Kashim Shettima echoed President Tinubu’s sentiments, highlighting the pivotal roles of religious and traditional rulers in promoting peace and unity. Shettima also praised the President’s efforts in redefining modern leadership and tackling economic challenges, such as the fuel subsidy, leading to positive economic growth and strengthening of the naira against the dollar.

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, representing the Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria, expressed unwavering support for the President and commended the government’s efforts to address rising food prices and security challenges. He assured Tinubu that traditional rulers would join hands to support his vision for the nation’s betterment.

Ambassador Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, Emir of Zazzau, speaking on behalf of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), emphasized the significance of Ramadan as a period of reflection, empathy, and unity. He highlighted the importance of coming together in the spirit of Ramadan to strengthen bonds of friendship and support the government’s initiatives.

Overall, President Tinubu’s message at the Iftar event in Abuja emphasized the need for religious leaders to promote unity, avoid vilifying the nation, and work together with the government to address challenges in Nigeria. The collective efforts of traditional, religious, and government leaders will be essential in combating issues such as terrorism, economic challenges, and security threats for the betterment of the nation.
