Seyi Makinde has expressed fresh worries about the trajectory of democracy in Nigeria, cautioning that the country may be sliding toward a one-party system.
In a newsletter titled ‘The business of governance’, Makinde observed that individuals who resist the idea of Nigeria becoming a one-party state are increasingly facing intimidation, while opposition groups are steadily being sidelined.
He further warned that the nation appears to be drifting into a phase marked by silence, apathy, or disengagement, noting that such a trend could take “us in a direction we may later struggle to reverse.”
