The National Coalition Against Terrorism has expressed its support for the Federal High Court order in Kano State that reversed the suspension of the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. The ruling, which came after Ganduje filed an ex parte motion seeking to enforce his fundamental right to fair hearing, was welcomed by the coalition.

In a press conference held on Thursday, the president of the coalition, Terrence Kuanum, highlighted the group’s concerns regarding the suspension of a party chairman without due process by individuals who are not members of the APC. Kuanum emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring that decisions are made within the framework of the party’s internal processes.

The president addressed the recent events surrounding Ganduje’s suspension by his ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government of Kano State, where the Ward Legal Adviser of the APC, along with several ward executive members, declared the suspension. However, all twenty-seven ward executive members of Ganduje ward, including the legal adviser, disavowed the suspension, stating that those responsible for the decision were not members or executives of the party.

Of particular concern to the coalition was the involvement of individuals outside of the APC in the suspension, leading to speculation about the politicization of the judiciary. The coalition commended the Federal High Court for granting an order in response to Ganduje’s application for the enforcement of his fundamental rights, ensuring a fair hearing. The order, issued by Hon. Justice A. M. Lima, restrained the respondents from implementing the decision made during the alleged emergency meeting of executive members of APC Ganduje Ward until the substantive application for the enforcement of fundamental rights is heard and determined.

The coalition praised the judiciary for upholding its integrity and restoring faith in the Nigerian legal system. The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, was commended for his role in maintaining the credibility of the judiciary.

In conclusion, the National Coalition Against Terrorism reiterated the importance of adhering to due process and respecting the rule of law in all matters, especially within political parties. The coalition affirmed its commitment to promoting justice, fairness, and accountability in the Nigerian judicial system.
