The Department of State Service (DSS) has reportedly arrested Abdulmajid Danbilki Kwamanda, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano, over an alleged threat to make the state ungovernable. According to reports, Kwamanda was handed over to the police after being arrested by the DSS and subsequently charged to a magistrate court in the state.

Following a viral video of an interview where he threatened the peace of the state, the Magistrate court remanded him at a correctional center. A source within the secret police confirmed Kwamanda’s arrest, noting that the controversial politician, known for his critical position on state affairs on local radio, was arrested after the video of his interview went viral.

In the video, Kwamanda was heard saying he would mobilize people to take over the streets in the state and start a large and destructive protest that would force the federal government to declare a state of emergency in Kano. It was also learned that in the interview that led to his arrest, the politician alleged that Rabiu Kwankwaso, the leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), was planning to restore the deposed Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi.

The election of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano was affirmed by the Supreme Court, and Kwamanda had featured in several interviews on local radio stations to register his displeasure with the ruling and faulting President Bola Tinubu for not ensuring that the APC retain the state.

Kwamanda’s arrest raises questions about the tensions and power struggles within the APC in Kano. It underscores the political volatility in the state and the strong opposition faced by the ruling government. As this story continues to develop, there is growing interest in understanding the underlying political dynamics that have led to this arrest and the potential impact it may have on the political landscape of Kano. The arrest is likely to be a focal point in discussions and debates surrounding the regional politics of Kano and the broader implications for governance and peace in the state.
