Taraba Governor, Agbu Kefas, has clinched yet another victory at the Supreme Court as the legitimate winner of the election that took place on March 18. The apex court upheld the victory of Governor Kefas, dismissing the appeal filed by the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) candidate, Sani Yahaya, for failure to establish a case.

The five-member panel of the Supreme Court held that the NNPP and its candidate failed to prove that Kefas was not elected by the majority of valid votes. The court affirmed the judgment of the Court of Appeal affirming the governor’s election. Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba stated that the appellate court was right to have dismissed the NNPP and Sani’s appeal due to incomplete records of appeal.

Earlier, the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja had also ruled in favor of Governor Kefas over the outcome of the March 18 governorship election. The petition filed by the NNPP candidate, Sani Yahaya, was dismissed by the election tribunal over lack of merit.

Yahaya had alleged non-compliance to the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022, overvoting, election result sheet manipulation, and violence in some polling units during the election. However, the tribunal affirmed Kefas’ election, ruling that the NNPP and Sani’s petition lacked merit.

In summary, Governor Agbu Kefas of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged victorious in the legal battle at the Supreme Court, solidifying his position as the rightful winner of the Taraba governorship election. This decision by the apex court strengthens his mandate and confirms his legitimacy as the elected governor of Taraba state.
