A part of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to update its records on the party’s national executive committee membership. The faction also urged the media to recognize only bonafide officers, in line with the NNPP’s constitution.
According to the NNPP faction, politicians like Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and the entire membership of the “old” national working committee have been expelled from the party. This was conveyed in a statement by the board of trustees (BoT) chairman, Temitope Aluko, on behalf of the party. Aluko emphasized that the media, INEC, and other relevant parties should acknowledge only the new principal officers of the NNPP, as provided in the party’s constitution.
Aluko firmly stated that both Kwankwaso and the old NWC led by Alhaji Abbah Kawu have been dismissed from the party, and the appropriate authorities including INEC have been duly informed. He stressed that INEC does not have the authority to interfere in the internal affairs of a political party.
The new principal officers of the NNPP as listed by Aluko are Dr. Gilbert Agbo Major as the national chairman, Comrade Ogini Samuel as the secretary-general, and Dr. TKO Aluko as the chairman of the board of trustees. Additionally, the party’s founder and spiritual leader is Dr. Aniebonam Boniface, and Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano is identified as the party leader.
This development continues to highlight the internal friction within the NNPP. It is important for the media and other concerned parties to acknowledge and respect the NNPP leadership as outlined in its constitution.
It seems that the NNPP is grappling with internal disagreements and power struggles, and this could have implications for the party’s functioning and political activities moving forward. However, at this point, much remains to be seen about how this situation will unfold. As such, it is a development that requires close attention and monitoring.
