Godwin Emefiele, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has pleaded not guilty to amended 20-count charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The re-arraignment took place at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Maitama, Abuja, on Friday, January 19.
Emefiele denied all charges during his re-arraignment and the trial has been adjourned to the 12th and 13th of February for trial. His defence team requested that he be allowed to continue enjoying the bail previously granted to him by the court. The prosecutor did not object, stating that they wanted him to attend his trial in good health. The trial Judge, Justice Hamza Muazu, sustained Emefiele’s bail condition.
