A group of stakeholders within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State, known as the New Dawn Organization, has recently come under fire for their accusations against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The group claimed that Tinubu had thrown the party’s State Governorship seat to the opposition at the Supreme Court and neglected party members in the state. This led to criticism and alienation of the group, with the leadership of the State chapter of the APC distancing itself from the New Dawn Organization and its statements.
In response to the accusations made by the New Dawn Organization, the State APC held a press conference at the State Secretariat in Bauchi. Saadu Umar Esq, the Chairman of the Publicity Committee of APC in the State, made a statement to condemn and deny the accusations. He clarified that the APC leadership, the federal government, and the judiciary had not neglected or maltreated the Bauchi State APC, its members, or the population of Bauchi State. Umar expressed regret over the press release from the New Dawn Organization and disavowed its presenter and signatories, denouncing the insults and wild allegations made.
Umar went on to refute the claims that President Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and the APC leadership had carelessly neglected the Bauchi State APC. He emphasized that President Tinubu had shown a high regard for Bauchi by appointing two individuals from the state to lead important Ministries. Umar also clarified that the New Dawn Organization and the undisclosed NGOs associated with it were not recognized by the state chapter of the APC, and therefore could not speak on behalf of the party or its members.
The statement further disassociated the APC from Orlando, a member of the New Dawn Organization, who had previously been an APC gubernatorial aspirant in 2015. Umar highlighted Orlando’s history of suing the APC and leaving the party for the opposition before returning in 2019. He stressed that Orlando was not an officer of the Bauchi APC and could not speak for the party or its membership.
The State APC called for an apology from Orlando and the New Dawn Organization for their unfounded allegations and insults towards the party leadership, federal government, President Bola Tinubu, and Vice President Kashim Shettima. Umar also addressed claims that polling unit agents had not been paid their fees, stating that all agents appointed by the APC during elections had been duly compensated.
Overall, the State APC emphasized the importance of members conducting themselves in a manner that upholds the reputation of the party and refrains from baseless accusations. The press conference aimed to set the record straight and clarify the relationship between the Bauchi State APC and the New Dawn Organization, condemning any attempts to tarnish the party’s image.
