The Benue state chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is embroiled in a serious crisis that has led to the suspension of its state chairman, Austin Agada. The crisis stems from various allegations leveled against Agada by top executives of the party in the state, which ultimately led to his suspension from office.

The suspension of Agada as the APC state chairman came after a ward chairman and six other members issued a restraining order against him, preventing him from parading himself in that regard. The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 30, leading to a court order barring Agada from acting as the chairman of the party.

Amid the crisis, the APC in Benue state accused top government officials of attacking the party’s secretariat during a press conference by the Owukpa Ehaje ward 1 chairman and his executive members. The ward chairman also stated that the entire executive committee was at the secretariat to declare their unwavering support for Agada and distance themselves from those who suspended the chairman.

In response to his suspension, Agada declared the decision as null and void, claiming that his removal was motivated by allegations of anti-party activities. However, the APC spokesperson, Felix Morka, announced the revocation of the suspension, adding an additional layer of complexity to the situation.

Following the developments in Benue state, the National Working Committee (NWC) directed the chapter to stay in action pending a review of the events by the national body. This underscores the need for a comprehensive and impartial evaluation of the crisis and its implications for the party’s operations in the state.

In another development related to the APC in Benue state, there was a clash between the party and Governor Hyacinth Alia over the suspension of the party’s primary election. The election was meant to fill a vacancy for the seat of Guma 1 state constituency following the appointment of Dr Yamar Ortese as Commissioner for Health and Human Services.

Governor Alia’s suspension of the APC primary was based on perceived threats and the interference of party stakeholders who were not from Guma LGA and were not expected to participate in the election. This dispute further compounds the challenges facing the APC in Benue state and highlights the complex dynamics at play within the party.

The court’s restraining order on Austin Agada and the broader crisis within the APC in Benue state raise significant concerns about the party’s internal conflict resolution mechanisms and its ability to effectively manage differences among its members. As the party works to navigate these challenges, it will be essential to prioritize transparency, fairness, and accountability in addressing the issues at hand.

Ultimately, the resolution of the crisis in Benue state will have broader implications for the APC’s operations and image, underscoring the importance of a swift and effective approach to address the internal conflict and restore stability within the party.
