The Charity Champions Cup is gearing up for its inaugural edition, set to take place at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja on 15th June. This charity event will see football legends like Victor Osimhen, Didier Drogba, and Kanu Nwankwo coming together to raise funds and awareness for the Attom Foundation’s noble cause.
The primary focus of the Charity Champions Cup is to provide assistance to at least 10,000 Nigerians, especially the elderly, who are facing vision problems like refractive errors, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma. Attom Yahaya, the founder of the Attom Foundation, highlighted the significance of this initiative during a press conference in Lagos. The goal extends beyond the spectacle of the match to support individuals with visual impairments.
Attom Yahaya expressed his gratitude for the support received so far and emphasized the dedication of the foundation to addressing the needs of those with visual impairments. The project aims to make a positive impact by leveraging the unifying power of football in Nigeria. Football is a unifying force in the country, as demonstrated during events like the recent AFCON where Nigerians came together as one. This unity and passion for football are driving the Charity Champions Cup initiative.
The lineup for the event includes not only renowned footballers like Osimhen, Drogba, and Kanu but also other legends such as Austin Okocha, Vincent Enyeama, El-Hadji Diouf, Emmanuel Adebayor, and Emmanuel Eboue. The participation of current Super Eagles stars like Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, and Kenneth Omeruo, as well as Super Falcons duo Asisat Oshoala and Michelle Alozie, adds to the star-studded event.
Celebrities like Tiwa Savage, Ayo Makun, Akpororo, and Nedu Ani will also be part of the Charity Champions Cup, enhancing the overall entertainment and impact of the event. The Federal Ministry of Sports Development, the Nigeria Football Federation, and the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare have endorsed this worthy cause.
The organizers are optimistic about achieving their goal of supporting thousands of Nigerians in need of vision care. By leveraging the popularity and influence of football and engaging both celebrities and sports icons, the Charity Champions Cup aims to make a meaningful contribution to society.
Supporters can also contribute to the cause by donating to the Attom Foundation and helping sustain the impactful work they are undertaking. The Charity Champions Cup represents a unique opportunity to combine the love of football with a charitable cause, uniting people from all walks of life for a common goal of improving lives and creating positive change.
