Athletes representing various companies are intensifying their preparations for the 19th Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games, with teams currently in training camps at different locations. The event is scheduled to take place from 21-27 April at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
Teams such as NNPC, SHELL, TOTAL ENERGIES, NCDMB, NMDPRA, NUPRC, ARADEL, OANDO, SEPLAT, NLNG, CHEVRON, PTI, and EXXONMOBIL will compete in thirteen sports, including Athletics, Golf, Chess, Football, Table Tennis, and Tennis. Other sports featured in the week-long event include Squash, Badminton, Swimming, Basketball, Volleyball, Eight-Ball Pool, and Scrabble.
The highlight of the final day will feature the finals of the male and female 100m and 200m dash, the 4x100m relay, and the final football match between NCDMB and NLNG. The football preliminaries took place at the Shell Residential Area in Port Harcourt, where NCDMB defeated NNPC 1-0 in a tightly contested semi-final, while NLNG defeated NMDPRA 1-0 in the other semi-final.
One of the standout athletes preparing for the Table Tennis event is Joe Adebayor, representing Team NCDMB, who has relocated to Lagos for intense training sessions at the Knock-up hall in the National Stadium, Surulere.
“We don’t want to take any chances. We hope to compete well and win medals for our company. That’s why I am training hard,” said Adebayor.
Apart from sports competitions, the event aims to promote camaraderie and teamwork among employees in the oil and gas industry. It provides an opportunity for professionals from different companies to interact and showcase their athletic talents outside the workplace.
