The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that it will be conducting a direct primary to choose its candidate for the upcoming governorship election in Ondo State. This decision was made by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), who have decided to forgo the clamour for zoning and opt for a direct primary instead. The primary election is scheduled to take place on April 25.

In a letter sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the national chairman of the APC, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the national secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, confirmed the party’s decision to use the direct mode of primary for the Ondo election. The party emphasized its determination to win the Ondo state election on November 16, as the state is currently under its control.

Nze Chidi Duru, the deputy national organizing secretary of the party, confirmed the mode of election, stating that this would be the first time such a process has been used for previous elections in Ondo State. Duru also mentioned that the decision to adopt the direct primary mode of election had been conveyed to INEC through a letter signed by the national chairman and national secretary.

The chairman of the APC in Ondo State, Ade Adetimehin, has assured that the party and the aspirants would not disappoint President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He expressed confidence that the best candidate would be elected to represent the party in the upcoming election.

According to reports, the APC may have generated about N720 million from the sales of forms for the primary election. This indicates a high level of interest and participation in the election process within the party.
