The All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers at the Ondo State House of Assembly have officially endorsed Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as their preferred aspirant for the upcoming governorship election on November 16. Speaker Olamide Oladiji made this announcement after a closed-door meeting with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party in Abuja.
The purpose of the meeting was to express gratitude to the party’s leadership for ensuring peace in the state following the passing of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Oladiji commended Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, the APC National Chairman, for his vital role in restoring peace to the state chapter. He credited Ganduje’s intervention for the current peaceful atmosphere within the Ondo APC.
The lawmakers affirmed their unwavering support for the party’s leadership and the administration led by President Bola Tinubu. They pledged to collaborate closely with the leadership to achieve the Renewed Hope Agenda. Oladiji highlighted Governor Aiyedatiwa’s positive impact on the state within a short period of assuming office, praising his efforts in governance.
The lawmakers emphasized their commitment to ensuring the continuity of Aiyedatiwa’s government and the APC in Ondo State. They dismissed external criticism by stating that the state is currently experiencing peace under the new governor’s administration. Aiyedatiwa’s achievements in office were acknowledged, particularly in maintaining the legacy of the late governor and fostering collaboration between the judiciary and the state executive.
During the meeting, Ganduje expressed appreciation for the lawmakers’ visit and expressed satisfaction with the resolution of the crisis in the state chapter. He emphasized the importance of member cooperation in the party’s planned primary election to select a suitable gubernatorial candidate. The APC had set the state governorship primaries for April.
Following the demise of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu in December 2023, Aiyedatiwa, who served as his deputy, assumed the role of governor in accordance with the Constitution. The lawmakers expressed their support and confidence in Aiyedatiwa’s leadership, reaffirming their commitment to the APC’s success in the upcoming election.
