The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has taken a significant step in the preparation for the upcoming primary election in Ondo State by inaugurating a seven-member governorship screening committee. This committee has been tasked with the responsibility of screening aspirants who are vying for the party’s gubernatorial ticket, with the primary election scheduled to take place on April 25th. The inauguration of this committee was carried out in Abuja by Nze Duru, the Deputy National Organising Secretary of the party.

Mr. Duru emphasized the importance of conducting the screening exercise diligently, with discipline and a friendly approach. He urged the committee members to work diligently and efficiently to complete the screening within the projected timeframe. Additionally, he highlighted that the Appeal Committee would commence its work immediately after the aspirants have been screened.

The screening committee, headed by former Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Joshua Lidani, and with former House of Representatives member, Bimbo Daramola, serving as the secretary, comprises other members including Jones Erue, Second Bakor, Magaret Duru, Chukwudi Ledirick, and Abdul Balogun. The Appeal Committee, on the other hand, is chaired by Senator Oseni Yakubu from Kogi Central, with Emmanuel Ekeh, Pious Idele, and Ibrahim Dosara as its members.

The oath of office was administered to the members of both committees to solemnize their commitment to carrying out their duties effectively. The screening exercise is a compulsory step in accordance with the party’s Constitution before conducting any primary election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set November 16th as the date for the Ondo State governorship election.

The vetting process for the 16 aspirants who purchased the party’s Nomination and Expression of Interest forms for the Ondo State governorship election was initiated by Abdulkarim Kana, the party’s National Legal Adviser. This process involved the verification of physical documents and credentials of the aspirants, ensuring fairness and due diligence throughout. It is a critical step in providing a thorough report to the party’s screening committee.

Notwithstanding the challenges posed by the compressed timeline of the screening exercise, the committee members are expected to work tirelessly to accomplish their tasks within the stipulated timeframe. The APC deputy national organising secretary expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to conduct the exercise effectively despite the constraints.

The party’s nomination and expression of interest forms were sold at different prices for male, female, and disabled aspirants. The meticulous vetting process underscores the party’s commitment to ensuring a transparent and fair selection of candidates for the primary election. This process reflects the party’s dedication to upholding the principles of democracy and accountability within its ranks.

In conclusion, the APC is taking proactive steps to ensure a smooth and transparent gubernatorial primary election in Ondo State. With the inauguration of the screening and appeal committees, the party is demonstrating its commitment to conducting a fair and credible selection process for its aspirants. The diligence and thoroughness exhibited during the screening process are essential to maintaining the integrity and credibility of the party’s internal procedures.
