The leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the South East have begun a series of consultations with prominent Igbo leaders in an effort to make inroads into the zone. This effort is part of the party’s strategy to bolster its presence in the region and gain the support of the Igbo community.

On Thursday, the South East National Vice Chairman of the APC, Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, along with the party’s Zonal Organizing Secretary, Dozie Ikedife, former senator representing Anambra North, Chief Emma Anosike, and the Vice Chairman of Anambra APC, Emma Ekwuaju, paid a courtesy visit to the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, at his palace. During the visit, Arodiogbu addressed the monarch on behalf of the party leaders, emphasizing the importance of the traditional institution and the role that leaders like Igwe Achebe play in guiding the people.

Arodiogbu noted that despite the seeming disapproval of the party by the Igbo community, the APC remains determined to make inroads in the South East. He stressed that supporting the APC is the surest way for the region to connect with the center and enjoy the dividends of democracy. He also assured the monarch that the party has tremendous respect for the traditional institution and will continue to seek counsel from traditional leaders.

The APC leaders expressed their admiration for the qualities exhibited by the Obi of Onitsha, recognizing him as a man of exceptional qualities with a deep understanding of various issues, particularly in the areas of economy and security. They emphasized the importance of seeking out the counsel of traditional rulers like Igwe Achebe and reiterated their commitment to respecting and considering them as important storehouses of wisdom.

In response, Igwe Achebe expressed his gratitude to the party leaders for the visit and wished them success in their consultations. The visit to the Obi of Onitsha highlights the APC’s concerted efforts to engage with influential Igbo leaders and gain their support in the South East.

The consultations with Igbo leaders and traditional rulers underscore the party’s recognition of the importance of building strong relationships and alliances in the region. By reaching out to influential figures like Igwe Achebe and seeking their counsel, the APC aims to establish a stronger presence in the South East and address the concerns and aspirations of the Igbo community.

Overall, the visit to the Obi of Onitsha reflects the APC’s commitment to engaging with the people of the South East and working towards building a more inclusive and representative political landscape in the region. The party’s efforts to cultivate relationships with Igbo leaders demonstrate a strategic approach to advancing its agenda and fostering meaningful connections with communities across the country.
