The Ondo Vanguard For Good Governance, a group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state, has raised concerns about the party’s non-compliance with electoral guidelines for the upcoming governorship primaries in the state. In a statement issued by its Coordinator, Evangelist Tade Ojo, the group emphasized the importance of addressing these issues to ensure the validity of the party’s primary election.

The group criticized the lack of compliance with the National Secretariat’s guidelines in the conduct of Congress elections to select delegates for the primary election scheduled for April 20, 2024. Ojo expressed dissatisfaction with the undemocratic manner in which the Congress Committee handled the exercise, highlighting their absence at the venues and arbitrary allocation of figures.

Calling for the intervention of the party leadership, including President Bola Tinubu, Ojo stated, “It is pertinent that the leadership of the APC in Ondo State and national, particularly President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, call these merchants to order before they plunge the party and the state to avoidable crisis.” The group emphasized the need for transparency and fairness in the electoral process to prevent unnecessary conflicts.

The group pointed out discrepancies in the use of different result sheets by the local government and state Congress Committees, indicating a lack of coordination and integrity in the election process. This led to the disenfranchisement of party members who had purchased intent forms to contest as delegates, highlighting the need for accountability and adherence to democratic principles.

Despite the allegations raised by the Ondo Vanguard For Good Governance, the Director of Information for Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s Campaign Organization, Kayode Fasua, maintained that the party had laid out clear guidelines for the primary election process. Fasua urged those with concerns to seek clarification from the party, emphasizing their readiness and commitment to a fair and transparent election.

The group reiterated its commitment to engaging with the public to raise awareness about the state of affairs within the APC in Ondo State, emphasizing the importance of upholding the common good and resisting attempts to manipulate the electoral process. They affirmed their dedication to ensuring a better future for Ondo State and vowed to continue advocating for transparency and accountability in the party’s activities.

As the primary election approaches, tensions within the APC in Ondo State remain high, with allegations of misconduct and irregularities casting a shadow over the electoral process. The Ondo Vanguard For Good Governance’s call for intervention and reform underscores the importance of upholding democratic principles and ensuring a level playing field for all party members. Only time will tell how these issues will be addressed and resolved as the party moves forward in the election process.
