The APC has issued a response to the call made by the PDP Governors’ Forum (PDPGF) for President Bola Tinubu’s resignation. The National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Felix Morka, stated that the party believes that the PDP governors are idle and have become spectators in the affairs of Nigerians. Morka went on to describe the very unpleasant shallowness exhibited by the PDP governors as becoming a badge of identity for them.
This statement was posted by the ruling party via its X handle on Sunday, February 18. Morka’s statement followed the criticisms that arose from the call made by the PDP governors regarding Tinubu’s resignation over the high cost of living. He cited the idle nature of the PDP governors as the main reason why such recommendations were made and reproached the level of executive irresponsibility exhibited by these governors. He further stated that the PDP governors’ statements likening Nigeria to Venezuela in the midst of prevailing economic and security challenges were unhelpful and displayed unrighteous indignation.
Meanwhile, the PDP Governors’ Forum (PDPGF) had earlier expressed their dissatisfaction with the state of the nation, particularly focusing on the economic difficulties Nigeria is facing. The Chairman of the Forum and Bauchi state governor, Bala Mohammed, stated that Nigeria is almost on the road to Venezuela’s fate under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership. The PDP shot a communique after their meeting at the Oyo State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja, expressing their concerns about the hardship that citizens are currently facing.
The exchange of words between the APC and PDP reflects the deeply entrenched political differences that characterize Nigerian politics. The resulting outcome only seems to exacerbate existing divisions and does not necessarily move the country forward.
The debate generated by these statements will, therefore, not only be limited to the two political parties involved, but will likely involve other stakeholders and citizens at large. It brings to the fore the position that the PDP and APC hold in the Nigerian political arena, as well as their respective roles and performances in the betterment of the country.
In conclusion, it is quite evident that the political dynamics in Nigeria continue to play out on different levels and platforms, often characterized by verbal attacks and disagreements. Therefore, it becomes increasingly necessary for both parties to seek common ground and areas of collaboration in order to tackle the pressing issues that Nigeria faces. Ultimately, it is in the nation’s best interest that the parties find a way to work together for the overall well-being, security and prosperity of the country.
