The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the clearance of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and 15 other aspirants vying for its ticket to contest the November 20 Ondo State Governorship election. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that a seven-man screening committee, headed by Sen. Joshua Lidani, has given the green light to all the aspirants to compete in the upcoming primary election scheduled for April 20.
In a report submitted to the party’s Directorate of Organisation in Abuja on Saturday, the screening committee disclosed that they assessed various criteria including eligibility, suitability, character, and support base before clearing the aspirants. Among those cleared alongside Governor Aiyedatiwa are prominent figures such as Isaac Kekemeke, former APC National Vice-Chairman (South West), Olusoji Ehinlanwo, a former member of the House of Assembly, Olugbenga Edema, and Sen. Jimoh Ibrahim. Additionally, Mrs. Funmilayo Waheed-Adekojo, Akinfolarin Samuel, former Commissioner for Finance, Adewale Akinterinwa, Chief Olusola Oke, Ohunyeye Felix, Morayo Lebi, Garvey Iyanjan, Prof. Francis Faduyile, Mrs. Judith Omogoroye, Ifeoluwa Oyedele, and Okunjimi John were also among the aspirants cleared by the committee.
The report highlighted that all the aspirants have expressed their commitment to support the chosen candidate of the party for the November 2024 governorship election. It further emphasized the importance of ensuring that the April 20 primary elections are conducted in a transparent, free, fair, and credible manner to maintain the integrity of the party.
