The All Progressives Congress (APC) has completed the screening process for the 16 aspirants vying for its ticket to contest the upcoming Ondo State Governorship election scheduled for November 20. The seven-man screening committee, led by Sen. Joshua Lidani, carefully evaluated each aspirant and confirmed their eligibility to participate in the primary election slated for April 20.

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa was among those cleared by the committee, along with prominent figures such as Isaac Kekemeke, former APC National Vice-Chairman (South West), Olusoji Ehinlanwo, a former member of the House of Assembly, Olugbenga Edema, and Jimoh Ibrahim. The list also includes Mrs. Funmilayo Waheed-Adekojo, Akinfolarin Samuel, Adewale Akinterinwa, Olusola Oke, Ohunyeye Felix, Morayo Lebi, Garvey Iyanjan, Francis Faduyile, Judith Omogoroye, Ifeoluwa Oyedele, and Okunjimi John.

The screening committee assessed various criteria such as eligibility, suitability, character, and support base when making their decisions. The report submitted to the party’s Directorate of Organisation in Abuja emphasized the importance of conducting a free, fair, and credible primary election that is acceptable to all stakeholders. It was noted that all aspirants showed a willingness to support the eventual candidate who emerges as the party’s flagbearer for the governorship election in November 2024.

Moving forward, the party’s leadership has been urged to ensure that the primary election process is transparent and inclusive to maintain the integrity of the selection process. The success of the APC in the Ondo State Governorship election largely depends on the fairness and credibility of the party’s internal mechanisms.

The candidates who have been cleared to participate in the primary election represent a diverse array of backgrounds and experiences, reflecting the vibrant political landscape in Ondo State. As the campaign season unfolds, each aspirant will have the opportunity to present their vision and agenda to the party members and electorate, seeking support for their candidacy.

The APC’s commitment to conducting a transparent and democratic primary election sets a positive precedent for the party’s internal processes and underscores its dedication to upholding democratic values. The outcome of the primary election will not only determine the party’s candidate for the governorship race but also showcase the party’s commitment to fairness and inclusivity in the political arena.

In conclusion, the clearance of the 16 aspirants by the APC’s screening committee marks an important milestone in the lead-up to the Ondo State Governorship election.
