Comrade Dakom William Danjuma, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau state, recently spoke out against the Supreme Court’s decisions regarding the Kano and Plateau state governorship elections. In an exclusive interview with Legit.ng, Danjuma expressed his disappointment over the verdicts, particularly focusing on the implications of the Kano case.

He argued that the court’s decision may set a dangerous precedent that allows individuals to print their own ballot papers and cast invalid votes.

Moreover, Danjuma also raised concerns about the Plateau state decision, asserting that it suggests anyone can form a political party without adhering to regulations and participate in elections without facing any hindrances.

With years of experience covering political campaigns and elections, Legit.ng journalist Nurudeen Lawal provided insights into these events.

In the case of Kano, the Supreme Court recently upheld the election of Kano state governor, Abba Yusuf, reversing the decisions of lower courts that had sacked him from office over alleged irregularities during the disputed March 2023 election.

Similarly, the Supreme Court also affirmed the election of Plateau state governor, Caleb Mutfwang, overturning the ruling of the Court of Appeal which had declared the opposition party’s candidate as the winner of the election.

Danjuma criticized these verdicts, pointing out the potential loopholes that they create in the electoral process. Specifically, he questioned the fairness of allowing individuals to print their own ballot papers and cast invalid votes and the implications of enabling individuals to form political parties without adhering to regulations and participate freely in elections.

In the midst of these developments, the ruling APC denied any trade-off with the opposition parties over the Supreme Court’s judgements, emphasizing the fairness of the electoral victories that were affirmed by the court.

The party also clarified that President Bola Tinubu maintained a non-partisan disposition and was not involved in any interference related to these court decisions.

These events have sparked public discussion and debate, emphasizing the importance of upholding the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that all parties adhere to regulations and procedures.

As the situation continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how these events will impact the political landscape in Kano and Plateau state.
