The All Progressives Congress (APC) has reiterated its commitment to ensuring a fair, transparent, and open governorship primary election for the upcoming election in Ondo State on November 11th. The party’s Deputy National Organising Secretary, Mr. Nze Duru, made this assurance in Abuja as the submission of Expression of Interest and Nomination forms by aspirants came to a close.
With 16 party members vying for the governorship position, the primary election is scheduled to take place on April 20th to select a standard bearer. Mr. Duru emphasized the party’s dedication to conducting a smooth and unbiased primary election process in Ondo State. Screening of aspirants is set for April 11th and April 12th, followed by the primary election.
To ensure a seamless screening process, aspirants will be organized into groups. Mr. Duru encouraged all aspirants to congratulate the chosen candidate, highlighting the example of Edo State where party members united even if they did not agree with the outcome. Edo State serves as a testament to the party’s commitment to a fair selection process, with party members coming together to support the chosen candidate.
Mr. Duru expressed confidence in the party’s success in Edo State and reiterated the belief that the APC will triumph in Ondo State as well. Among the aspirants for the governorship race are the incumbent governor, Lucky Aiyedatiewa, Funmilayo Waheed-Adekojo, Olusoji Ehinlanwo, John Okunjimi, Jimoh Folorunsho, Duerimini Kekemeke, Samuel Akinfolarin, and Adewale Akinterinwa.
Other contenders include Olugbenga Edema, Chief Olusola Oke, Felic Ohunyeye, Morayo Lebi, Garvey Iyanjan, Prof. Francis Faduyile, Judith Omogoroye, and Ifeoluwa Oyedele. Mr. Oyedele, the most recent aspirant to submit his forms, emphasized the need for visionary leadership in Ondo State, stressing his qualifications and experience as a founding member of the party.
Having previously stepped down in 2020 to maintain party unity, Mr. Oyedele highlighted his vision for improving healthcare and education in the state. He emphasized his commitment to serving the people of Ondo State and bringing about positive change.
As the party prepares for the governorship primary election in Ondo State, the APC’s pledge to uphold fairness, transparency, and unity remains steadfast. The upcoming election will play a crucial role in determining the party’s candidate for the governorship race, with aspirations for a successful outcome akin to the unity achieved in Edo State.
