The NCF Women’s T20i Invitational Tournament is currently underway at the Tafawa Balewa Cricket Oval in Lagos, with Nigeria and Tanzania emerging as joint leaders with six points each. Tanzania is currently leading in Net Run Rate with a score of 2.337 after suffering a loss to Rwanda in their first game and remaining undefeated since. Nigeria is in a tight position as they have the same number of points but a lower NRR of 0.625, forcing them to win their next two matches in order to retain the trophy.

Rwanda is not far behind with four points and is determined to overtake either of the leading teams if they lose points in their upcoming matches over the weekend. Chuma Anosike, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, has called on Nigerians to come out and support the national team as the tournament reaches its climax. He emphasized the significance of the event in promoting women’s cricket in the country and preparing the teams for the African Games in Ghana.

Yesterday was a rest day for all teams, but the matches will resume today with Rwanda taking on Sierra Leone in the morning followed by Nigeria facing off against Tanzania in the afternoon. Emeka Igwilo, General Manager of the Nigeria Cricket Federation, highlighted the interest and support from sponsors and dignitaries in the sporting world for the weekend games, showcasing the success of the Female Yellow-Greens and the development of sports in the country.

The fifth NCF Women’s T20i Invitational Tournament will conclude tomorrow, with the team accumulating the highest points from the six matches being crowned the winner. Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, and Tanzania are all participants in the tournament, providing a platform for showcasing women’s cricket talent and fostering competition and growth in the sport. The event has garnered support from cricket enthusiasts and sponsors across the country, contributing to the success and visibility of women’s cricket in Nigeria.
