The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, has announced that the ministry is collaborating with the office of the National Security Adviser to ensure the safe distribution of grains to states across Nigeria. This decision comes after the Federal Government approved the distribution of 42,000 metric tonnes of grains to focal points in state capitals nationwide.
During an interactive session with the National Assembly joint Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development led by Sen. Saliu Mustapha in Abuja, Mr. Kyari shared the government’s directive to distribute the grains for immediate impact. He mentioned that the President had approved the distribution in mid-February and that the process was already underway. However, he emphasized the importance of keeping certain movements confidential due to recent incidents of food looting.
Mr. Kyari highlighted that the grains were being transported to state capitals with the involvement of the office of the NSA and other security agencies to ensure their safe delivery. Additionally, he mentioned that 58,500 metric tons of milled rice from mega rice millers would also be released into the market to help stabilize the food supply.
The actions taken by the government aim to alleviate the hardships faced by Nigerians and provide relief to those in need. Mr. Kyari assured that these measures would soon lead to improved food security in the country, addressing the current challenges faced by the population.
In response to the government’s efforts, Sen. Saliu Mustapha expressed satisfaction with the steps being taken to address food security issues. He commended the collaborative approach between the government and the National Assembly, expressing confidence that these initiatives would benefit the Nigerian population.
The ongoing distribution of grains and the release of milled rice into the market demonstrate the government’s commitment to addressing food security concerns and ensuring the well-being of its citizens. With these efforts, the government expects that Nigerians will soon experience relief from food insecurity and have better access to essential food items.
Overall, the collaboration between the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Security Adviser, and other relevant agencies underscores the government’s dedication to improving food security and meeting the needs of the Nigerian population. Through these coordinated efforts, the government aims to create a more stable and secure food supply system for the benefit of all citizens.
