Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu has officially assumed the position of Director of Naval Information and Spokesperson for the Nigerian Navy. His appointment was approved by Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, the Chief of the Naval Staff, and he takes over from Rear Admiral Adedotun Ayo-Vaughan who has been redeployed to another position within the Navy.
Born on December 15, 1977, in Lagos, Commodore Adams-Aliu comes from a family with a strong background in journalism, with his father, Sir Adams-Aliu, being a respected journalist and editor. Growing up in this environment, he developed a passion for public speaking and media relations. He attended Shepherd Hill Primary School and Kings College, Lagos before joining the Nigerian Defence Academy in 1995, where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry in 1999.
Commissioned into the Nigerian Navy in 2000 as part of the 47 Regular Course, Commodore Adams-Aliu has since embarked on a successful naval career. He has undergone various professional courses, including the Captain Career Course at the United States Army Infantry School in Atlanta, the Junior and Senior Staff Courses at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji, and the Naval War College in both Nigeria and the United States.
Throughout his career, Commodore Adams-Aliu has served in various roles, including as a Watch Keeping Officer on Nigerian Navy Ships, a military observer in the United Nations Mission in Liberia, and as the Officer in Charge of Nigerian Navy Ship BENIN and Squadron Commander of the SHALDAG Boat squadron. He has also served as the Pioneer Commanding Officer of Nigerian Navy Ship KARADUWA, the Principal Staff Officer (Navy) to the Chief of Defence Staff, and as a Directing Staff at the Naval War College Nigeria.
In recognition of his dedication and service, Commodore Adams-Aliu has received several awards and decorations, including the Passed Staff Course, Meritorious Service Star, United Nations Medal, Nigerian Navy Command at Sea Badge, and Distinguished Fellow of the Naval War College. He is also a member of various professional institutions, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Chartered Institute of Personnel Management, Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, International Institute of Professional Security, and the United States Naval Institute.
Commodore Adams-Aliu is happily married to Dr. Loretta, and they have three children together. His diverse experience in command duties, staff duties, and training of subordinate officers has prepared him for his new role as Director of Naval Information. With a strong foundation in journalism, a solid educational background, and a wealth of naval experience, Commodore Adams-Aliu is well-equipped to represent the Nigerian Navy as its official spokesperson.
