The acting chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Chief Tony C Okocha, has criticized the current government of Rivers State, accusing them of engaging in frivolous activities and neglecting their duty to deliver tangible results to the people of the state. Okocha made these remarks during appearances on 95.1 (Today FM) and 92.3 (Nigerian Info) in Port-Harcourt. He also serves as the state representative on the management board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
Chief Okocha expressed his disappointment with the current administration, stating that Governor Sim Fubara needs to focus on governance and stop the excessive thanksgiving ceremonies that are costing the state millions of naira. Okocha emphasized that the citizens did not elect Fubara to engage in frivolities but to provide good governance and improve the lives of the people.
Okocha highlighted the lack of progress in completing projects and delivering on campaign promises, comparing Rivers State unfavorably to Lagos State, which has seen significant industrial development. He also criticized the partial implementation of an eight-point agreement between President Buhari, Governor Sim, and the Minister of Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike, stating that full compliance is necessary to avoid disobedience.
Addressing rumors of attempts to remove Fubara from office, Okocha defended the governor and criticized those spreading such misinformation. He also clarified the NDDC’s efforts to address the cholera outbreak in Soku and honor the late activist Ken Saro-Wiwa, highlighting the commission’s commitment to serving the people and recognizing important figures in Nigerian history.
Okocha’s insistence on accountability and good governance reflects his commitment to the principles of the APC and his dedication to ensuring that the people of Rivers State receive the dividends of democracy. By speaking out against the frivolous activities of the current administration and calling for a focus on delivering tangible results, Okocha is advocating for transparency, efficiency, and effective leadership in the state government. It remains to be seen whether Governor Fubara will heed these calls and prioritize the needs of the people over political grandstanding and wasteful spending.
