The Zamfara State Agro Climatic Resilience in Semi Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) has launched a project sensitisation campaign targeting Emirs and traditional rulers to ensure the successful implementation of various projects in the state. The project’s sensitisation tour kicked off with visits to Gusau and Kaura Namoda Emirate councils on Tuesday evening.
Alhaji Nasiru Bello, the state project coordinator, highlighted that the ACReSAL project aims to support livelihoods in specific communities within the state. This project, initiated by the federal government with World Bank assistance, seeks to address the challenges of regional desertification and landscape management in 19 states and Abuja.
The Acting State Project Coordinator emphasized that ACReSAL is crucial for ensuring future food and water security amidst changing climates. The program also aims to equip communities with the necessary tools and investments to improve sustainable livelihoods. Specifically, the Zamfara State project under ACReSAL will focus on water provision, tree planting, desert control, and enhancing farming activities in target communities.
The Zamfara State Commissioner for Environment and Solid Minerals, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Garba Altine Dauran, affirmed the government’s commitment to improving the living standards of communities through the ACReSAL projects. He noted that the state Governor fully supports these projects and provides the necessary backing for their successful implementation.
During the sensitisation tour, the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, urged the ACReSAL management team to exceed expectations and work closely with stakeholders in the Emirate council for effective project implementation. Similarly, the Emir of Kaura Namoda, Alhaji Sanusi Muhammad, through his representative Alhaji Nasiru Umar Marafa, pledged full support and collaboration for the execution of ACReSAL projects in the Emirate.
Overall, the ACReSAL project in Zamfara State represents a significant step towards enhancing agricultural resilience and landscape management in semi-arid environments. By engaging with traditional rulers and key stakeholders, the project aims to bring lasting benefits to target communities in terms of improved water access, sustainable farming practices, and overall livelihood enhancement.
Through collective efforts and collaboration, the ACReSAL initiative in Zamfara State is poised to make a tangible difference in mitigating the effects of desertification, promoting sustainable agriculture, and ensuring the well-being of residents in the region. Moving forward, continued support and active participation from all stakeholders will be essential to the success and sustainability of the ACReSAL projects in Zamfara State.
