The Accord Party, AP, took a significant step recently by dissolving its National Working Committee (NWC) and electing a new leadership. This decision was announced by the party’s immediate past National Chairman, Mohammad Lawal Nalado, during a meeting with the National Executive Council (NEC) in Abuja. Nalado, who had served the party for over 20 years, expressed his gratitude to the NEC and his allies for the opportunity to serve the party. He also acknowledged the support he received during his tenure, stating that he never faced any challenges while discharging his duties.
Despite his voluntary decision to step aside, Nalado expressed his commitment to continuing to support the party’s growth and success. He opposed a review of the party’s constitution that would have extended his tenure as the Chairman, emphasizing the need for new leadership to surpass his achievements. Nalado recognized his age and admitted that his thinking may be diminishing, expressing his hope for the party’s progress in its pursuit of a democratized Nigeria.
In a gesture of reconciliation, Nalado sought forgiveness from anyone he may have offended and extended his forgiveness to those who may have offended him. He emphasized the importance of unity and urged party members to continue being their brother’s keepers.
Following Nalado’s address, the Protem National Chairman, Martins Inyang Ansa, oversaw the election of Caretaker Committee members for the party. The meeting also saw the election of Barr Maxwell Mgbudem as the National Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, with Dr Adebukola Abiola Ajaja emerging as the National Secretary of the committee. Mgbudem, who also serves as the National Secretary of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role.
The restructuring of the party’s leadership marks a new chapter for the Accord Party, as it positions itself for future growth and development. The election of a new caretaker leadership underscores the party’s commitment to rejuvenation and progress, as it seeks to enhance its relevance in the political landscape.
Moving forward, the Accord Party will benefit from fresh perspectives and innovative strategies under the guidance of the newly elected leadership. The continuity of support from Nalado and his willingness to assist the next leadership demonstrate a sense of unity and cohesion within the party, setting a positive tone for its future endeavors.
As the party embarks on this new phase, the collective efforts of its members and the dedication of its leadership will be crucial in realizing its vision for a prosperous and democratized Nigeria. With a renewed sense of purpose and a dynamic leadership team, the Accord Party is poised to make significant contributions to the country’s political discourse and shape the direction of its democratic journey.
