A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dawisu, has called for the arrest of the former commissioner and adviser of the Kano state government, Abba Kabir Yusuf, who threatened to kill judges. This call comes after the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested Kano-based politician Abdulmajid Danbilki Kwamanda over his alleged threat to mobilize the masses to begin an uprising and make Kano ungovernable. Kano is known as one of Nigeria’s most volatile states, with a high risk of security threats, especially concerning political affairs.

Salihu Tanko-Yakasai, popularly known as Dawisu, who was a former media adviser to the immediate past governor of Kano state, Abdullahi Ganduje, urged the Abba Kabir Yusuf administration to arrest the former commissioner who issued a death threat to the judges of the governorship election petition tribunal. The tribunal at which the Kano state commissioner of lands, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya, promised to unleash mayhem is one of note.

Aliyu had suggested that judges of the tribunal may have been bribed to rule against his party, the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and threatened that if the judges ruled against his party, they may pay with their lives. His comments led to his sacking by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. The state governor’s senior special assistant on new media, Hassan Sani Tukur, also stated that the government welcomes constructive criticism and is most receptive to opposition within the confines of the law.

Dawisu’s call for the arrest of the former commissioner is in light of the arrest made by the DSS, and is aimed at maintaining sanity in Kano. His hope is that the government will equally arrest its former commissioner and adviser, who issued threats to kill judges. The government regards incitement, defamation, and the assassination of character as unacceptable, as expressed by Tukur.

This comes against the backdrop of the Kano state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, sacking the commissioner for threatening tribunal judges. The commissioner was reportedly sacked on Tuesday, January 23, which led to his arrest by the DSS.
