Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State recently initiated the distribution of palliatives to 120,000 vulnerable households spread across the 17 Local Government Areas within the state. The primary goal of this distribution was to alleviate the suffering experienced by vulnerable individuals residing in various parts of the state, especially in light of the prevailing economic challenges.
In a ceremony held in Damaturu to kick off the distribution process, Governor Buni emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating that it was a massive effort aimed at providing support to those in need. The distribution included over 50,000 bags of assorted food items such as rice, maize, millet, and sorghum, which were distributed across all 17 councils in the state.
The distribution strategy involved working through a network of representatives from various groups, including People Living With Disabilities, Mosques, Churches, Orphanages, IDPs, and other vulnerable communities selected from the 178 wards in the state. Governor Buni also instructed the State Emergency Management Agency to collaborate with security agencies to guarantee the safe delivery and transportation of the distributed materials to the designated beneficiaries.
Additionally, Governor Buni issued a stern warning against any form of sabotage or diversion of the materials, stressing that the government would not hesitate to take decisive action against such acts. He expressed appreciation to the Federal Government, NG-Cares, the North East Development Commission, the National Emergency Management Agency, and all other partners for their support in complementing the state government’s relief efforts.
Dr. Mairo Amshi, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, highlighted that the distribution of palliatives was part of the ongoing efforts by Governor Buni’s administration to provide assistance to the populace. She further mentioned that the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs had collaborated with the state government to augment the relief efforts, showcasing a joint commitment to improving the welfare of the people.
One of the beneficiaries, Mustapha Muhammad, expressed gratitude on behalf of others who benefited from the palliatives, acknowledging the positive impact it would have on their livelihoods. He lauded the Yobe state government for extending a helping hand to those in need and providing essential support to enhance their quality of life.
