The Executive Secretary of the Knowledge Exchange Centre (KEC), Oluwatosin Ogunsanya, recently reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to closing the technology skill gap through the provision of free digital skills training for young people. Speaking at the orientation ceremony for the GAP Digital Skill programme in Lagos, Ogunsanya announced that 100 young graduates from across the country would be participating in their graduate advancement programme.

The GAP Digital Skill programme, which was initiated in 2015, aims to assist graduates in bridging the gap between the skills that employers are seeking and the skills that they currently lack. Ogunsanya emphasized that the focus of the programme is on digital skills, particularly in the area of social media management. Over the past three years, the organization has been actively involved in providing digital skills training.

The 100 participants admitted into the programme will be mentored by 25 professionals from the digital marketing industry in Nigeria, as well as one or two individuals from overseas. The three-month programme will include eight weeks of social media marketing training, six weeks of mentoring, and three weeks of job readiness training. Additionally, the organization plans to equip the participants with problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, as well as provide guidance on securing and maintaining employment.

Ogunsanya highlighted that the goal of the programme is to prepare the participants for the job market and enable them to thrive in their chosen careers. The three-month journey will culminate in May, marking the completion of the comprehensive training programme.

The KEC’s commitment to providing free digital skills training for young graduates reflects their dedication to addressing the technology skill gap in Nigeria. By empowering the participants with the necessary skills and knowledge, the organization aims to enhance their employability and overall career prospects.

In conclusion, the GAP Digital Skill programme represents a valuable opportunity for young graduates to acquire essential digital skills and receive guidance from experienced professionals in the industry. Through this initiative, the KEC is contributing to the development of a highly skilled and competent workforce in Nigeria, ultimately fostering economic growth and innovation in the country.
