The Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) is basking in the success of their performance at the 13th African Games in Ghana, where Team Nigeria dominated the boxing event and secured eight gold and two silver medals. Now, the federation has shifted its focus to the Paris 2024 Olympics qualifier set to take place in Thailand in May.
NBF Secretary General, Dapo Akinyele, revealed that over five boxers will be representing Nigeria at the qualifying event in Thailand, with the goal of securing a spot at the Paris Olympics. This comes after three Nigerian boxers have already qualified for the prestigious event. Akinyele expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform well in the upcoming qualifier and hopes to see more positive results in the future.
Following Nigeria’s struggles to field boxers in previous Olympic games, including only one boxer at the Rio de Janeiro 2016 edition, the NBF is determined to ensure that Nigeria is well-represented in Paris. The federation’s mission is to have multiple Nigerian boxers competing at the Olympics, with a goal of at least two boxers reaching the medals zone.
The success at the African Games has instilled a sense of optimism within the NBF, with Akinyele praising the coaches for their excellent work and dedication. The federation is banking on the momentum gained from the African Games to propel the boxers to success at the Paris Olympics. The NBF is keen on establishing Nigeria as a force to be reckoned with in the boxing world and hopes to make a mark on the international stage.
With preparations underway for the Paris 2024 qualifier in Thailand, the NBF is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that the Nigerian boxers are well-prepared and ready to compete at the highest level. The federation is working closely with the coaching staff to fine-tune the boxers’ skills and strategies in order to maximize their chances of qualifying for the Olympics and performing well in Paris.
As the countdown to the Paris 2024 Olympics begins, all eyes are on the Nigerian boxers as they aim to make their mark on the global stage. The NBF is committed to supporting the boxers every step of the way and is hopeful that Nigeria will have a strong presence in the boxing event at the Paris Olympics. With determination, hard work, and talent on their side, Team Nigeria is poised to achieve great success in the world of boxing.
