Members of the Swapo central committee are currently deliberating on whether to select Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as their sole presidential candidate. Nandi-Ndaitwah, in response to these discussions, emphasized the importance of perseverance and determination, stating that “where there is a will, there is a way.”

The central committee, recognized as the highest decision-making body within Swapo between congresses, gathered to propel the party forward during a meeting at parliament. Nandi-Ndaitwah addressed the committee, acknowledging the challenging circumstances surrounding their decision-making process but urging them to remain steadfast in their resolve.

Following the passing of President Hage Geingob in February, the politburo has convened three times to strategize on the way forward. In one of the recent meetings, Nandi-Ndaitwah received the endorsement as Swapo’s presidential candidate for the upcoming national elections in November. Despite the party’s constitution mandating an extraordinary congress within 90 days to elect a president to fulfill Geingob’s term, the politburo has taken decisive action in supporting Nandi-Ndaitwah as the candidate.

Nandi-Ndaitwah highlighted the potential challenges that may arise in the absence of President Geingob and stressed the importance of the central committee making a judicious decision. She called upon the committee members to leverage their collective experience and political acumen to navigate these challenges effectively, ensuring that Swapo continues its mission of serving the Namibian people with dedication and efficiency.

The discussion surrounding Nandi-Ndaitwah’s candidacy reflects a critical juncture in Swapo’s leadership transition process, and the outcome of the central committee’s deliberations will have significant implications for the party’s future direction. As the members grapple with the complexities of succession in the wake of Geingob’s passing, Nandi-Ndaitwah’s candidacy represents a potential path forward for Swapo as it seeks to maintain stability and continuity in its leadership.

Ultimately, the central committee’s decision will shape the course of Swapo’s political landscape, determining the party’s trajectory in the upcoming national elections and beyond. With Nandi-Ndaitwah’s leadership at the forefront of these discussions, the party stands at a pivotal moment in its history, where strategic decision-making and unity will be essential in ensuring Swapo’s continued success and relevance in Namibian politics.
