Swapo Windhoek council member Sakarias Uunona was on Friday elected as the Windhoek municipal council’s mayor.
Uunona replaces former mayor Ndeshihafela Larandja and is expected to serve the Windhoek council for a period of five years.
Delivering his acceptance speech, Uunona said financial stability will be a key priority for the city to make use of funding for service delivery.
“Only a financially secure city can respond to the needs of the residents,” he said.
