Residents living in low-lying areas along the Kunene River are being urged to evacuate immediately as rising water levels threaten severe flooding downstream of Ruacana.

The Namibia Power Corporation, in a statement issued on Friday, announced that it will open a second floodgate at the Ruacana Power Station to manage the surging volumes, a move expected to sharply increase river flow to over 1 800 cubic metres per second.
