Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila expressed her gratitude to various countries for their support towards Namibia and the Geingob family during the funeral and mourning period of President Hage Geingob. The conclusion of President Geingob’s funeral service on Sunday marked the end of a poignant and emotional time for the nation.

One of the countries specifically mentioned by Kuugongelwa-Amadhila was Botswana, which provided significant support during this difficult time. Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi personally showed his support by providing 49 vehicles and 20 motorbikes to assist with the funeral arrangements. Kuugongelwa-Amadhila highlighted the importance of having such neighbors, emphasizing that neighbors are like your neck bone and are often the first to offer support in times of need.

In addition to Botswana, Angola also played a crucial role by contributing four out of seven fighter jets that paid a final tribute to President Geingob by performing a fly-past during the funeral. Angola also provided tents and vehicles to support the funeral arrangements, showcasing the solidarity of neighboring countries during the nation’s time of mourning.

Zambia also showed support by sharing its experience and sending a contingent of personnel to advise Namibia on how to navigate the unfamiliar territory of organizing a state funeral. This gesture of solidarity and collaboration between neighboring countries was deeply appreciated by Kuugongelwa-Amadhila and the Namibian government.

Several countries also declared mourning periods in their own nations to honor President Geingob, demonstrating the international community’s respect for the late head of state. These countries also provided material and logistical support to ensure that the funeral and mourning period were conducted with dignity and respect.

The support and solidarity shown by Botswana, Angola, Zambia, and other nations during this challenging time were a testament to the strong relationships and bonds shared between countries in the African region. President Mokgweetsi Masisi, President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa, and other leaders stood by Namibia and the Geingob family, reaffirming the importance of unity and cooperation in times of grief and loss.

As Namibia continues to mourn the passing of President Hage Geingob, the support and compassion shown by neighboring countries and the international community serve as a reminder of the strength that comes from standing together in solidarity during times of sorrow. The nation will forever be grateful for the outpouring of support and assistance received during this challenging period.
