The National Youth Council (NYC) executive chairperson, Sharonice Busch, made a strong statement on Sunday, condemning the alleged misconduct of NYC director Calista Schwartz-Gowases. The director reportedly attempted to assault a representative of the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) during a council meeting in Ondangwa.

Busch emphasized that the meeting had to be halted due to the alleged incident of attempted assault. She stated, “We are going to address the misconduct displayed by the director before and during this representative council (RC) meeting. We condemn, in the strongest terms, the actions of the director towards the PDM Youth League delegate and will address the incident that led to the suspension of the meeting.”

Furthermore, Busch mentioned that the board would convene an extraordinary RC meeting once the issues are resolved to meet the statutory requirements outlined in the act, by way of being accountable to the RC.

During the council meeting, Busch expressed her vision of building a corruption-free and transparent NYC to continue serving young people. She acknowledged the efforts made in strengthening processes and systems to enhance transparency and accountability within the institution. Busch encouraged the attendees to maintain their commitment to building a corruption-free NYC that serves the youth of the country.

Moving forward, it is essential for the NYC to uphold integrity and professionalism in all its dealings to gain the trust and support of the youth it serves. The organization must foster a safe and respectful environment for all its members, regardless of their affiliations or backgrounds.

In a call to action, Busch urged the attendees to prioritize the mission and vision of the NYC, which is to empower young people and provide them with opportunities for growth and development. By creating a culture of accountability and transparency, the NYC can better serve its purpose and positively impact the lives of the youth.

In conclusion, the incident of misconduct displayed by the NYC director is a clear violation of the values and principles that the organization stands for. It is crucial for all members and leaders of the NYC to uphold the highest standards of behavior and conduct themselves with respect and professionalism at all times. Only by fostering a culture of integrity and accountability can the NYC continue to fulfill its mandate of serving the youth of the country.
