The Swapo Party’s vice president, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, has been officially endorsed as the party’s presidential candidate for the upcoming national election in November. This decision was made by the central committee during a meeting held at parliament on Saturday. Additionally, the meeting also resolved to schedule the much-anticipated extraordinary congress for 19 April 2025.

Speaking after the central committee meeting, Swapo secretary general Sophia Swaningwa expressed her pride in announcing Nandi-Ndaitwah as the party’s sole candidate for the presidency in 2024. She emphasized the unity within the party and the committee’s unanimous decision to support Nandi-Ndaitwah in the upcoming election.

Swaningwa further explained that the central committee carefully evaluated Swapo’s constitution in relation to the extraordinary congress following the passing of Swapo president Hage Geingob on 4 February. After thorough deliberation and discussions, the committee agreed that endorsing Nandi-Ndaitwah as the presidential candidate was the correct decision.

Earlier this month, the politburo had already endorsed Nandi-Ndaitwah as the presidential candidate for the national elections. This decision was formally accepted by the central committee members during the recent meeting. Swaningwa highlighted the victory of the Swapo party as a whole, emphasizing the importance of unity within the central committee.

The endorsement of Nandi-Ndaitwah as the presidential candidate reflects the party’s commitment to continuity and stability in leadership. As the nation prepares for the forthcoming election on 27 November, the central committee is unified in its support for Nandi-Ndaitwah’s candidacy.

In conclusion, the central committee’s decision to endorse Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah as the Swapo party’s presidential candidate for the national election in November demonstrates the party’s dedication to unity and continuity in leadership. With the extraordinary congress scheduled for April 2025, Swapo is focused on ensuring a smooth transition and a successful election campaign. The party’s unity and solidarity will be crucial in rallying behind Nandi-Ndaitwah as she prepares to lead Swapo and the nation in the upcoming election.
