Zambezi regional police commander Andreas Shilelo has declared that the days of thieves profiting from stolen goods are numbered, thanks to the joint efforts of the Namibian and Zambian police forces. For years, the residents of the Zambezi region have been victims of numerous house break-ins resulting in the loss of valuable possessions, carried out by both locals and individuals from Zambia. These stolen goods are taken across the border to Zambia where they are sold for profit.

During a discussion with The Namibian, Shilelo disclosed that just last weekend, there were 17 reported cases of house break-ins at various residential and business properties. These perpetrators have made a living from stealing and have caused significant distress to the community. However, with the collaborative efforts of the Namibian and Zambian police forces, there have been significant breakthroughs in recovering stolen goods and apprehending suspects. Recently, three Zambian nationals were arrested in Zambia with items stolen in Namibia, and they were subsequently repatriated. Upon investigation, it was revealed that they were also involved in a lodge break-in where they stole items.

Furthermore, efforts have been made to trace items stolen from the Kwando area in Zambia, with plans to recover them in the near future. Shilelo expressed optimism about the progress being made through these joint initiatives, although there is still more work to be done to completely eradicate house break-in incidents in the region. Additionally, the collaborative efforts with the Zambian police have also extended to addressing cases of stock theft in the region, leading to the successful recovery and repatriation of stolen cattle.

It is evident that the partnership between the Namibian and Zambian police forces is yielding positive results in combating crime and ensuring the safety and security of the Zambezi region. The recovery of stolen goods and the apprehension of suspects not only serves as a deterrent to would-be criminals but also provides justice to the victims of these crimes. Shilelo emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between the two police forces to effectively address and prevent future incidents of theft and stock theft in the region.

In conclusion, the collaborative efforts of the Namibian and Zambian police forces are making significant strides in combating crime in the Zambezi region. By working together to recover stolen goods, arrest suspects, and address stock theft cases, they are sending a clear message to criminals that their illegal activities will not go unpunished. The commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the community is evident in the joint initiatives being undertaken, and it is through continued cooperation and vigilance that the days of thieves profiting from stolen goods will truly be numbered.
